Atlas, an AI film by Nurlanbek Kamchybekov

About the film

ATLAS (2026) — a science-fiction short film from Kyrgyzstan, created entirely by generative AI means. Submitted to the Astana AI Film Festival 2026 — Thematic Competition, "The Future Worth Living In". SYNOPSIS A promised day off with his daughter turns into a staged alien invasion. Temir, a mine guard, learns the war he spent years protecting is a cover for what is being taken from under the pit. To leave Alina a future instead of an inherited lie, he must blow the dam above the quarry — and finally keep the promise he always postponed until after his shift. DIRECTOR'S NOTE ATLAS argues the opposite of what AI filmmaking usually celebrates. A future is not worth living in if it was bought by cancelling the present. The story grew out of something entirely ordinary: a father who keeps telling his daughter "after my shift", and a mining region whose whole economy runs on that same promise — extracting the future at the cost of today.
